Cereals as the backbone of Iraqi food security

Russian Middle East Association, together with the University of Baghdad organize special seminar “Cereals as the backbone of Iraqi food security”. Key Speakers: Nagham M. Al-Azawi — Assistant Professor at the College of Agricultural, Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad Elmira E. Imamkulieva – Program Director of the UN SDG Center under the Russian Middle East Association, Senior Lecturer at the School of International Regional Studies Food security at the national level can be defined as the ability of the state, through its own production, to provide the entire population of the country with basic types of food, subject to the mandatory condition of the physical and economic availability of these products in the quantity and quality necessary to maintain normal life and human capacity. This is a key problem in the agro-industrial complex of any country. Grain products play a leading role in ensuring the food security of a country. Creation of new high-quality and highly productive wheat varieties resistant to different climatic and biological conditions is one of the main tasks of scientists today. Scientists and specialists from many countries of the world are working on the creation of new high-quality and highly productive varieties of wheat.
